Marty,

I suppose your decision will depend upon what you are using the Cube
for.

I use a variety of wordprocessors for different kinds of writing Nisus
Express, Z-Write, MacJournal, TextEdit, Mellel - including weird, since
my employer now requires me to use a very complicated template.
I use excel for similar reasons, but otherwise use AW for spreadsheets
- my own stuff is simple.
iTunes, Toast, VueScan, EndNote, FileMaker, AddressBook, FirstClass,
Merriam-Webster Dictionary, StickyBrain, UltraLingua.
Firewire: scanner, HD for bootable back-up.
USB for Iomega 250 data backups, keyboard through Griffin (I use my old
SE30 keyboard for preference) and shortly, for digital camera, but
cannot yet report on that.

I changed from 10.2.8 to Panther (now 10.3.2) having earlier updated
the firmware and haven't looked back. Classic hasn't booted since
except for an exploration - all my regular software now runs in X.

I have abandoned Eudora, iCab and Palm Desktop in favour of Apple Mail,
Safari (for choice, but others when pressed) and iCal. (though I am
dabbling with the idea of trying something other for iCal which I find
I do not use as much as did Palm Desktop.)

Not a power user, just a jobbing hack, but I am very pleased I made the
change - rock solid - significantly quicker than the original X but
still slower than 9. a pleasure to use - but don't load all the fonts
unless you need them, they get distributed like litter in a tornado -
takes ages to tidy it, even with the additional font tools in Panther.

Hardware: 500MHz, 1GB RAM, HD IBM-IC35L060AVER07-0 60MB, CD MATSHITA
CD-RW CW-7121, UMAX Astra 6400 scanner

Hope this helps.

David
