One thing you should do is look at the gain levels for the speakers. Launch "Audio MIDI Setup" in Applications/Utilities. You can adjust the gain for each speaker from here. I know on my Cube I had to tweak them higher. Also, my TiBook had them set pretty low by default. Cheers!
