Yes you do.

It can be the *same* username and password, but the server box needs
to know who you are.

Unless you're doing nfs exporting and mounting, but that's not what
we're talking about here, we're talking about afp (or smb in the case
of linux or windows servers).

You try and mount an afp filesystem from a machine that doesn't know
you and all you'll get is dropboxes.
