Slightly incorrect response to the issue. You cannot make direct copies of commercially made CDs and DVDs that contain anti-piracy coding without using a ripper program like MacTheRipper. Also, there is the issue of legality. Many manufacturers are saying that you do not have the right to make a working/use copy of their discs despite a court decision that a purchaser has the right to make a personal backup/work copy of a disc to protect their original disc from wear and damage. The crux of the matter is whether the copy is ever discovered in possession or use and by whom.
