Directly connect them and boot one with the T held down and its drive  
will appear on the desktop of the other. Do you want to use Firewire  
as a network connection instead? In that case you have use of both  
computers. What is you reason for wanting them connected and what  
will you be using the connection for?

Also what model PowerMac? And what OS are you on? Specifically?  
10.3.9 or 10.4.2? on both or different on each?
