Third, I believe drutil will only work if the disk is in a burner. diskutil
should work on a non-burning drive. Find out the device name (System
Profiler is the easiest way), and use, in a terminal:

diskutil unmount /dev/diskX (probably 1 or 2)
diskutil eject /dev/diskX
