[DigiCam] Re: FireWire card readers too?

I've really only heard of one FireWire card reader. It sounded good, but
was much more expensive than any other card reader. Unless you are
copying a huge amount of large files, the USB readers are quite acceptable.

I had the Microtech reader that takes both compact flash and smart
media. It too felt solid and had a button to push out the compact flash
card, but it was really flakey about appearing on the desktop. It could
not be plugged into your keyboard and rarely worked in a USB hub (and I
bought one of the best hubs out there trying to get it to work with that
card reader).

In the end, I gave away the reader and the camera that used smart media
and got a really cheap Memorex. No more problems getting the card to
show up on the desktop. It works in OS 9 and X, works connected to the
keyboard or a hub and it didn't need any drivers (unlike the Microtech).

My 2 cents

Shirley
