[DigiCam] HDD camcorders

Dear List,
I have just become a Mac "newbie", and I have a few questions regarding  
video importation.  My Sony Digital8 camcorder communicates well with my  iMac, 
but I was thinking of moving to a new HDD camcorder.  However, I  cannot find 
any that use a "firewire" cable, and I'm hesitant to trust a USB  connection.  
Any thoughts?
