Helen, To reset the PMU (Power Management Unit), Apple recommends first holding down the "reset button" (the on/off button on the back of the duo) for 30 to 45 seconds. A second method is to disconnect the duo from all power sources including the battery for about 10 minutes. Some folks on the list recommend doing these two procedures together. In theory it wipes the computer memory completely clean, including the power manager code. When you reboot the computer, it loads an uncorrupted batch of PMU code from the system software. If resetting the power manager does not work, the problem is probably hardware, not software. And the likely suspect is the battery itself. Apple's article on resetting the PMU may be found here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58416 Although you have probably taken a look at the articles on duo batteries, I include a link to the first of two here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=18241 My guess is that you will need to rebuild the poorly performing battery, a fun project that will give you a backup to your new BTI battery. Good luck! Robert on 2/24/03 6:50, Helen Ross at helen at koan.de wrote: > > How do I rest the powermanager? > > Helen > >
