>From the DHT (Dead Horse Topic) Department. : -) >From Apple's 2300 devnote: "Sound: The computer has a built-in microphone and speaker. The sound circuits provide 16-bit monaural sound input and output." Very interestingly however, it uses the Singer sound chip, just like its siblings 5300 and 1400 . . . "Singer IC - The Singer custom IC is a 16-bit digital sound codec. It conforms to the IT&T ASCO 2300 Audio-Stereo Code Specification." And here in the Main Expansion Connector pinout table: Pin number Signal name Description 67 +8V SOUND Special "clean" +8 V power for sound output 70 +5V SOUND +5 V power for sound output 71 SND OUT R Sound output right channel 72 SND OUT L Sound output left channel 73 EXT MIC FILT R Right input signal from external microphone 74 EXT MIC FILT L Left input signal from external microphone Of course, that doesn't mean the 2300 actually has stereo output through the ExpConn, but I remain hopeful. At least the basic HW _may_ be there to support it. Dan K
