To me, the biggest drawback of the iBook was the lack of PC Card slot and G4. The new 12" doesn't have a slot either, unfortunately, but I guess compromises have to be made. For me I guess being able to have an internal SuperDrive makes up for it, but I wouldn't have really minded using external drive modules like I did with the 2400. The other huge drag about the iBook was its lack of openability -- it is holy hell to work on this thing, from getting the plastics off to removing the 953 differently sized screws (to replace a hard drive, you need Phillips, flathead, Torx and Allen) to carefully peeling back the static foil that covers the whole machine, to not tearing any wires that connect the top to the bottom, to replacing the tape that holds all sorts of things down on the inside. I liked working on my 2400. I never want to open my iBook again (I've done it twice, and that's enough). I wonder how the new 12" will fare in this regard; I'm guessing equally badly. I notice there's a removable panel on the bottom, which I'm assuming is for RAM; there are no little latchies in the top row of the keyboard. (There's also an extra key, which I'm thinking is a dedicated CD eject key.) But I wonder whether a hard drive replacement will be "user serviceable", as it (sort of) is on the TiBook. Fortunately, you can get it with a 60, which is the max available, and that should keep me for a while.
