Question about internal and normal battery

Hi All!

Further to my investigations on why the 2400 I have does not charge 
its battery, I have noticed that it won't keep the date or time for 
long.

Would this affect the battery charging?  I know dud PRAM batteries in 
desktops do weird things, so it is not an outlandish assumption that 
the system might be going screwy because of a dud PRAM battery in the 
2400.

Any thoughts?
