Obviously you had to do HFS for System 7.x since it can't see HFS+. Any volume larger than 1GIG benefits greatly from HFS+ formatting and if all 3 partitions are just HFS, that means you've lost about 25-30% of you hard drives storage space due to the huge block sizes they to create. That or when you are running in System 7.x you simply can't see the other two partitions if you did format them as HFS+. -Mark
