Unfortunately the prices for any of that usually exceed the value of the laptop by double or more. :( Could be simply a bad contrast control or loose connection. I worked on a Toshiba with a permanently dark screen, could see the lights at top and bottom but the screen was all black. So I took the lid apart, didn't see anything obviously wrong, but before I gave the owner the bad news that this $75 value laptop needed a $195 LCD, I put it back together and it worked fine.
