By testing my Duo 2300 with Localtalk, Ethernet (Minidocked and DuoDocked) and a modem, I came to the conclusion that my expectations were askew from what the Duo could deliver. There was no significat speed increase from Localtalk->Ethernet->files on local hard disk, although all of these tested faster, objectively and subjectively, to a modem. That is to say, I ran into an upper limit of PageLoadSpeed pretty quickly and could not expect Ethernet to improve my state. Perhaps you've hit the upper limit of what a modem can deliver and an extra 35 bps in modem tuning won't help SUBJECTIVELY speaking. -t
