OS 9 needed it, but syncs just fine without it in X. So, you might be able to get away without it for other Sony models. I have a Handspring Edge, but IMHO, the Sonys are the class of the bunch. Very nice, very well executed, even if they don't include Mac software. One thing about it, you have plenty to choose from. Mel
