[G4] Initializing a new Hard drive/OSX

I just did the same thing, but I simply used the Disk Utility in OS X 
to "erase" the HD.  It became instantly recognizable & I cloned my 
backup drive with Carbon Copy Cloner.  I should imagine you could use 
the same utility from the OS X CD.
