Why are these so hard to deal with?

I just downloaded two bits of software, one for me and one
for my Dad. I can't seem to put the separate files into a folder
for each of us, just to organize things. I also need to burn his to
a CD to take over to his house.

Wassup wit dat? I hate a messy desktop, and each of these
puppies has three files, one a .tar, one a .dmg and the third
a "volume."

Many thanks in advance for any tips.
