Unplugging it usually doesn't hurt anything-usually. I think I remember hearing about a power switch problem with some Macs-maybe that is what happened to yours. Also be sure that your access door is completely closed. There is a magnetic switch there. Hopefully someone with that model can help you. I did a Google search for mac won't power up and you may have a bad logic board. I wouldn't tell about the surge caused by unplugging the machine when you try to get it repaired though.
