[G4] iDVD-different encoding schemes?

Not really. You assemble a movie or two or three in iMovie (asssumed) 
export them with the menu option.
drag the exported movies to iDVD and while you are picking your menu 
background it is already rendering.
In iDVD2 you hve the option of the 1 hour or the 1+1/2 hour mode, that's it,
