Problem with Huge File Transfer in X.

I am trying to transfer a very large file (34GB) from one drive to 
another. The system gets part way through (varies), and stops. No 
panic, just stops.

This happens whether the drives are internal  or firewire.

I can transfer the files with no problems in OS/9.

I have reinstalled OS (10.2.3) onto a zeroed out drive, I have replaced 
just about every component (power supply, logic board, hard drives).

Does this happen to anyone else?

I wonder if this is an OS problem or a processor malfunction - or user 
error.
