G4 won't wake up

I'm having this sleep problem with my G4 Sawtooth
running OS 9.2.1.  About half the time after it has
been put to sleep or fallen to sleep by itself it refuses
to wake up by the usual stimuli, i.e. clicking the
mouse or hitting the keys.

In such cases I am forced to push the "Restart" button
on the front panel, which of course takes a much longer
time to become functional than the normal awakening.
I'd appreciate any suggestions regarding a fix.
