Apple first introduced a recordable DVD-RAM drive in the AGP lineup. This is not the same as today's Superdrive which uses DVD-R and DVD-RW disks. Many older (even just a couple of years) CD drives (auto's, audio and computer) will have problems playing CD-RW's. Your drive may play some DVD-RW's or it may not play them at all. If I'm not mistaken it has to do with the type of reflectivity of the CD-RW material being different than CD-R material and not being able to read it properly.
