Groucho, I have 1.25G memory installed. The 36G scsi drive that's giving me problems is not partitioned at all. The factory installed internal hard drive (I incorrectly said it was IDE, it's ATA) is 60G and has four partitions, but I'm not having a problem with that drive. I should add that I can copy large files fine FROM the SCSI drive to the partitioned drive, it's copying and doing video capture with large files TO the SCSI drive that causes system hangs. In response to Doyle, I've been using Adaptec controller cards for almost five years, with no problems on my older computers. Started with the 2940UW, and got 29160 a couple of years ago - installed it in my G3, then switched it to G4 when I bought it last February. It's listed as being compatible with my Quicksilver G4, I'm not in the habit of throwing out working hardware just because I upgrade my computer. I'm also reluctant to purchase another controller card without knowing that I'm not going to have the same problem.
