you did not mentioned your machine type, anyway most problems in OS9 are
solver Zapping the PRAM and some times by rebuilding your desktop give it a
try... first Zap, and see if it works fine another trick may be to use a
start up disc (OS9) boot from it and do nothing, then restart your machine
booting from OS9 internal drive not from the CD that will fix the startup
preferences file...
