office X

OK, hypothetically now, if I had installed a copy of Microsoft office X 
on my G4 tower and the same copy on my ti-book and both machines were 
on a wireless network how would I be able to use word or excel or 
whatever on the ti-book while it was open on the tower? I've HEARD that 
if office is running on one machine it won't let the program open on 
the other machine.
I would of course never do that - I'd spend $400 on the software for 
each machine - but hypothetically.....
