I seem to recall that Apple recommends to Mac OS X developers not to use the resource fork; it certainly appears to me that Apple is moving away from the forked structure (which would be negated by implementing multiple forks). It's also possible that, like other organizations, Apple is not a monolith, and that there are various groups within it who push their own agendas and technologies. For the moment, x-platform seems to be in the ascendant, but who knows what the future will bring? f
