[G4] USB flash drive

Sometimes when I attach my flash drive (actually a Smart Media Card) to 
my keyboard USB port, I'd say that about a third of the time, no icon 
appears on the desk top.

For a while I thought it wasn't mountiing but I learned to go to 
"Computer"  in the finder. And it was there every time! Once I accessed 
it, an icon then would appear on the desk  top.

Hope yr problem is as simple as this.
