Valerie-

I do seem to recall a problem with Windows XP Pro and null passwords. 
In order to get a blank password to work, I believe you had to change a 
few things with the group policy editor. If that is indeed the problem, 
the simplest solution would be to assign a password.
I actually thought you were getting a message about "The alias xxx 
could not be found..."
