Constant Catalog Corruption

My catalog keeps becoming so corrupt I have to start off Norton to fix it
2-3 times a month and the computer wont wake from sleep. Any Ideas here's
what I have

OSX Panther all software upgrades
G4 AGP Sawtooth 350mghz Tower
Upgraded to an 800mhz Sonnet G4 processor
Radeon 8500 video card using only 1 monitor
External USB2 iOmega Predator CD-RW
Wacom Tablet USB
