[G4] Sleep, Different Kinds

Put computer to sleep - This is the general option, especially useful
when you don't want to touch the other two. Simply put, the computer
will go to sleep within the time set here.

Use separate time to put display to sleep - The screen will go to
sleep, if supported, at the time specified here. If you have your
screensaver set for 20 minutes and this option set for 30, the
screensaver will come on 20 minutes after no input from the keyboard or
mouse, and the screen will go to sleep in 30 minutes.

Put harddisk(s) to sleep when possible - The system will spin down the
harddrive(s) when they've been inactive for a while. I typically don't
enable this, as I've always heard it's better for harddrives to run for
extended amounts of time rather than spin up and down over and over
within a few hours time.

As for backing up and sleep, I've not used the program you speak of,
but whenever I'm doing something major, like a backup, I disable sleep
or set the time til sleep much higher than I know the major activity
will take. I do know that dial-up connections will disconnect upon
going to sleep.

Sleep is a low-power mode. If your computer supports it, it may go
into deep sleep, which is where the fans inside turn off and the power
light pulses, again, where supported. I have my G4 go to sleep within
2 hours of no input from me.
