Carol, I had an LG Combo 4480 (48x24x48 16x DVD-ROM) drive in my G4 Digital Audio. Performance was wonderful. Completely supported in OS 10.2.8 (did not need to add drivers), and Toast 5.2. I replaced it with a Pioneer 106D . My daughter is using this drive in her B&W G3 running OS 10.2.8, again with no issues. The prices range from $50.00 usd to $100.00 usd. If you are going to spend $100.00 dollars, you might as well go for the Pioneer 106. I paid $112 for the 106. It was bulk pack, not retail pack ( I don't need the PC software anyway) It is Dual format (DVD-R and DVD+R), and DVD+RW is cheaper to use for back-up. You will lose a little bit of speed vs a 52X CDRW, but not much.
