Firewire Fatique

Hi -

I have a Maxtor hard drive and after using it for backup the manual
says to unplug from the firewire port and then power down the drive.
(One could keep it attached, but might not want to hear the motor
all day long, etc.)

So I'm connecting, and unconnecting, every few days after backup.

Will I wear out the firewire port? Is there a hub one can get for
a firewire port? What's up with this?
