I do not suggest performing the installation in the manner you describe.

It would be much easier and safer to purchase an external FireWire/USB drive 
enclosure and put the spare drive in it and you would not risk having to chop 
up the inside of your box. A FireWire/USB cable will give you the connection 
to the drive and it can be used as a reader machine for your newly installed 
burner.
