Imac DVR Pioneer 104

I have installed OS 10.2.8 on a friends imac G4/800  15" Flat Screen 
which has a pioneer DVR-DVRW 104. I updated the OS from apple and 
should have all of their updates. The System profiler shows A227 
Revision for the DVR.

I can burn a CD on it Ok and Play a DVD Movie OK,, but can not  burn a 
DVD-R. I place a blank DVD in the drive but it does nothing other than 
the drive making some noise and eventually ejects..  Any suggestion 
from the list.  Russell
