I sat on the phone You did not say you played with the cables My recent experience, with QuickSilver G4 733 running OS 9.2.2. Ethernet dead. System Profiler said ok. Control panels all ok. Switch lights ok. Chooser not ok for connecting to other Macs. Other Macs see each other and the internet via router and cable modem. Other Macs cannot see QS. Played with cables. My son, a Mac guru visiting at Christmas with his PB could ping the QS. He gave up and said it's probably the switch, try other ports. Ran Apple's hardware diagnostic CD. No problems noted. No joy on anything until AFTER I ran TechTools Pro hardware diagnostics. TTP reported all ok. After that the QS came up on ethernet. Repeated attempts to uncover a failure mode with different cables and with different ports on the switch failed -- could not replicate the problem. Go figure! Did the simple act of running TechTools Pro straigten out some glitch somewhere???
