An advantage of going to external firewire 800 is that the drive may be 
used by your next computer. However, your computer may not currently 
support FW800 so you'll need a PCI card for that too.

So, either way, you'll need a card - either the ATA6 card to support 
larger drives or a PCI card to support FW800.
