All of this appears to me to be a simple case of failing to read the menu information and investigate the options that are offered. If you want to save an email message as a text file, just go to the File menu and pull down to the "Save As...." command. In the save dialogue box, you are given the option to save the message as one of the following choices: 1) Rich Text Format 2) Plain Text 3) Raw Message Source Select the format that you desire and proceed with the "save as" process, choosing a location, etc. Unless you are having other and more serious problems, your difficulty is something that you could have avoided by reading carefully and choosing the proper option.
