Well, it's not as radical as a clean install, but close. Do an install of the OS over the existing one. You could also update to Panther. I have a Yikes 400 with 800 RAM, and I ran 10.2.8 just fine, no problems with my stock 8x CD-ROM, a 4X DVD-ROM from a Sawtooth, nor my Pioneer DVR 107. Looks like the OS is the problem.
