Since you didn't have 10.2.6, it won't work for your situation. Incremental
updates, such as the one you downloaded, usually only work if you had
updated to the previous version. In this case, you needed to have updated
to 10.2.6 before you could update to 10.2.8 (10.2.7 was an intermittent
version that shipped with some new machines, but wasn't available as a
separate update).

To go from 10.2 (or any other version besides 10.2.6) directly to 10.2.8,
requires the combo update. Otherwise, you could do the incremental update
dance: 10.2->10.2.1->Š->:10.2.6->10.2.8, but each of those is about 40 MB.
You'll just have to bite the bullet and download the combo updater at
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25524>. Dial-up is a b*****.
