Oxford 911 bridge

I bought a 4-Bay FireWire Enclosure from Magcode Tecnology.

Great box ! Great company !

But ...

There are 2 Oxford 911 brigdes. Each brigde has a cable for 2 IDE drives.

I want to be sure : I must connect one drive as a master and one as a slave.
Is it right ?

The reason of my question :

When I turn on the enclosure then my PowerPC (2x1.25MHz, OS X.3) I don't see
the drives on the desktop. I need to turn off and on the enclosure 2 or 3
times and then the drives appear on the desktop.

What is my problem.
