There are a lot of ways. Just from the outside, you can find out what's
running, look for potential conflicts, check your memory capacity, your
preferences both general and program specific, check your defaults and
internet setups( I got a big speed increase on another machine by
changing the address where it gets it's DHCP fer instance)
Then you can delete your caches run the crons fix the permissions
rebuild your directories etc.
Maintenance and knowing wha['s going on go hand in foot..
