ISO is preparing a standard on the subject, which will replace ANSI IT9-25, but I don't think it's ready yet. IMHO, it doesn't matter much in the short run. In the long run, it may, but the life span of a CD-R is limited (less than 5 yrs), and I'd worry about dye degradation before altered disc geometry.
