[G4] OSX and OS 9

I am thinking of purchasing OS 10.3 (Panther) and installing it on my
Sawtooth G4 400 on a 2nd hard drive to keep OS 9 and OS X separate.  Is
switching the boot drive from X to 9 as simple as selecting the correct
disk as the startup disk from system preferences?

I already have a dual boot G4 that came with OS X and OS 9.  It is
simple to switch between the two systems on that computer.  Will a
standalone version of OS X switch the same way?
