Just external USB hard disks won't work. You may not be getting enough power to the external USB hard drives for them to operate and be recognized properly. Have you tried attaching the external drive case to a powered hub and still not have it be recognized? A PCI USB card may not give enough power to the sockets to energize a hard drive but will give enough to a memory stick. Your other devices that you listed all either do not need a large amount of power or they receive power from their own transformers and are not dependent on the PCI card at all for power. Your printer and label writer should have their own external power adapters and your PDA has on-board batteries for operation. 'Nuff said?
