You can put in as large capacity a drive as is made and you can afford as long as it will physically fit in the powerbook. 2. Internal drives will be able to boot the machine, external drives may not be able to boot (USB cannot boot, but FireWire can). 3. An external can be either slower or faster, it depends on the speed that you buy.
