According to <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288>, you need to go to 9.2.1 first. > **Regarding the OSX "Classic"" mode most of the > applications I use for my business are running on OS > 9.1 so would they run on the OSX Classic mode? That's what it's designed to do. BTW, configure your OS 9 installation as you see fit, then just select its System Folder for Classic. Some CPs and some parts might not run under Classic, but all of your applications should. With your machine, you can always boot into OS 9 to run those that won't. On my machine, I have three separate OS 9 volumes; one for Panther, one for Tiger, and one for testing. > **How does one "get" from OSX to Classic mode or > do you have to re-boot the computer or can you toggle > from one OS to the other? You boot into OS X, then select System Preferences->Classic, start it up and it runs as another application on OS X. > **Will all my periperals still work in OSX and will I > be able to use my Samsung ML-1210 printer with OSX? Don't know. But my 6yr-old Epson StylusScan 2500 runs under OS X, OS 9, and Classic without any problems. However, some of Epson's software requires being booted into OS 9. > **Should I consider buying a new dual boot computer > with a faster processor or is my 400 mhz. enough? My 450 Mhz, MP is working fine. I'm waiting until the new machines come out next year before contemplating getting a new one. > **What I'm trying to get a sense of is that suppose > I'm using a new OSX capable Broswer and want to cut > and paste some text from the browser into one of my > Classic (OS 9.1 apps) documents. I routinely do that from Safari to Word 5.1. I also do image editing in Photoshop 2.0.1 (circa 1991). > **"All things being equal", will running things (like > web browsing) in OSX be faster or will the Classic > environment be slower? Yes, but depends on your internet connection. Classic and OS 9 are about the same. No noticable difference here. > Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Batty, yes. It's just a question of reading about upgrading, getting your questions answered, and then making the leap.
