I refer to an external drive housing that has FireWire connection sockets. Some external housings have dual interfaces, both USB and FireWire sockets, and can be used with either system. These housings can be used with hard drives or disc burners, you just have to remove the front panel for the disc tray or slot to be available if you install a burner. I have one housing that was sold under the name "Speedzter 5". It has one USB v2.0 and two FireWire sockets with an internal power supply so I don't have to use an external power adapter for it. I installed my Pioneer DV-105 DVD-RW in it and normally use the USB connection for making music CDs. Since I don't have any pressing need for speed with the music CDs, I am willing to take the extra time, but when I make a DVD, I use the FireWire connection. Hope this information gives you a better idea of the availability and application of peripheral devices.
