It's not my opinion (it's Apple's). And I doubt it's really got much to 
do with Energy Star, since Apple was recommending the same 8 hour rule 
before there was such a thing as Energy Star. If anyone still has one 
of those nice Plus, SE, or Mac II manuals, check it out. I shouldn't be 
extravagantly surprised if you found something like that.

I think that the original idea was (stress of 1 boot) = (wear and tear 
of running uninterruptedly for 8 hours). And I suspect it came from 
someone's hand-waving, rather than a serious study.
