What he said.

FWIW, have you thought about going the extra distance and getting a Mac
Mini? Smaller hard drive,
no RAID, but new and fully integrated. More (or less) the same price, all
new, no legacy issues.

Your RAM array will only run at the speed of the slowest stick in the
machine. Only benefit of faster
RAM is to swap it into a newer machine later, but these listed aren't
compatible to G5's.

I have a 1st generation G4 450 DP that's now filled with RAM and add'l
drives, but upgraded to OSX
without any trouble. I put OSX on a new internal ATA drive that I made the
boot disk. Pretty good
price on the one you're looking at. I think our local MicroCenter had
similar Samsung's on sale for a
bit less recently.

HTH,

jon

Get a Mac Mini. It'll be quieter, faster and cheaper.

BTW. The memory and HD can be had for much less with rebates.

Well, sad to say, I haven't gotten very far.
I'm thinking of getting the upgrades that it needs, but first I have to
ask. Is this crazy?
Should i just give up and recommend buying a new machine?
Or do you think it can be done?

I'm looking at these upgrades.
